Dominic Büttner was born in Basel in 1964 and grew up speaking both French and German. He decided to become a photographer very early on; after finishing school, he studied Photography at the 'Ecole d'Arts Appliqués' in Vevey between 1986 to 1990, graduating with the federal certificate. From 1990 to 1993 he worked at the 'Tages-Anzeiger' as an assigned photographer.
His varied interests led him to carry out photographic reports in different fields, being it the arts, economy or polictics. He also specialised in portrait and architectural photography; his architectural photography has been featured in several magazines, among them 'a+u' and 'Techniques & Architechtures'.
Dominic Büttner lives in Zurich since 1993 and currently works as a freelance for about a dozen newspapers and weekly magazines such as 'Le Temps', 'Facts', 'NZZ am Sonntag', 'L'Hebdo' and 'Le Monde'.
